The REAL Benefits You Get from a Subcompact Handgun

Do you own a subcompact pistol? If not, it’s definitely a gun that you may want to consider.

A subcompact gun is usually one that people think about for backup defense. It’s smaller, lightweight, and very easy to conceal carry. Those are just some of the basic benefits of the handgun. Let’s look a little deeper into why you may want to invest in this type of weapon.

What Makes it Subcompact?

With a barrel of 3.25 inches or less, a subcompact gun is going to have an overall length of around 6 inches. If you have a big hand that might be a problem, but for most people the size won’t be an issue. You’ll be able to carry it in your hand easily, but make sure you practice with any gun you own at a shooting range to get comfortable with it.

A 9mm is the most common handgun caliber for concealed carry. The subcompact styles usually have a single stack of bullets instead of a double-stack. This makes the gun thinner and weigh less than regular guns.

Smooth Design

The smooth design of most subcompacts make it ideal for conceal carry. It’s not going to have any sharp edges, so it won’t get snagged on your clothing when you go to holster your gun.

Regular Sights

The sights on a subcompact gun will need to be just as good as a regular one. Make sure with any subcompact gun you buy that the sights are clear and easy to see.

The Right Grip

Since the subcompact gun is smaller, the grip still needs to be top-notch. Make sure it feels good in your hands paying special attention to the detail on the grip if your hands are bigger. When you actually go to the gun store to buy a subcompact, it’s better than buying one online. You can’t tell how a gun is going to realistically feel in your hand unless you are in the store.

Less Expensive

Less material usually means less cost, and that’s exactly the case with a subcompact weapon. Check out subcompacts from all the best gun brands, like Smith & Wesson, Sig Sauer, Glock, Rugar, and Walther. They all make exceptional subcompacts that are going to be priced in the range of $250-$500.

Buy the Correct Holster

When you finally do make the purchase of a subcompact, you should buy a holster that fits it properly. Make sure it’s high-quality so that when you conceal carry your weapon, you can access it easily and smoothly.

  1. Yes, I like my Walther PK380 which is more comfortable to my hand than the PPK in .380 and it was less expensive.
