A recent study by the Federal Bureau of Investigation shatters the gun-grabber myth that firearms are the primary culprit of violent crime in the United States.
According to the FBI, knives are used twice as much in violent crimes as rifles and shotguns combined. Commentator Colion Noir further points out that firearm killings are also eclipsed by unarmed attacks. That’s right — hands and feet kill more people every year than the scary AR-15s that Joe Biden promised to ban during his last campaign for president.
The latest available FBI data doesn’t really break the mold — and it’s easy to see why firearms are such a rare tool in homicides. Knives are obviously much more accessible for violent criminals. You can get them pretty much anywhere, and nobody thinks twice about it. This is obviously true for unarmed attacks — just about everyone is born with hands and feet.
Of course, this is why many people — particularly women and others who feel more vulnerable — look to firearms for protection in the first place. Guns are the great equalizer of our time. Because of firearms, a 120-pound female can stand her ground against a 250-pound male aggressor. Without this distinct advantage, we sadly know how that situation would turn out.
Unfortunately, violent crime has surged in recent years. According to The Day, homicides in the United States jumped by 30 percent in 2020. The FBI further reports that manslaughters increased by 29 percent, the largest year-on-year increase since the FBI began recording these incidents in the 1960s. Because of this, it’s no wonder why Americans continue to purchase firearms at record rates.
Exacerbating the rise in crime is the political attack on law enforcement. Almost every major city in America defunded police departments under pressure from progressive groups such as Black Lives Matter in 2020. Not surprisingly, many of these municipalities are abruptly changing course by announcing more funding for police officers as many retire in droves.
In one incident, the entire riot quad in Portland quit overnight when it became clear that their own bosses would not stick up for them as riots became celebrated expressions of dissent.
All of this reinforces how important it is for Americans to take their protection into their own hands. For those of us who have been following this for a long time, the answer to this crisis is simple: buy a gun.
