A Women-Only Shooting Experience: The She Hunts Skills Camp

Women make up about 10 percent of the hunters in America. In order to increase those numbers, there are organizations out there that are geared towards female hunting and shooting sports. One of those is the She Hunts Skills Camp. In honor of Women’s History Month, let’s look at what this amazing camp is all about.

Based in San Antonio, Texas

The She Hunts Skills Camp is based out of San Antonio, Texas at the famed Record Buck Ranch. This ranch is incredible. It’s a destination for year-round hunting for a variety of game, like red stag, whitetail deer, and seasonal hunts of turkey and dove. The area includes 20,000 acres of wide open space.

The lodging, meals, and alcohol (open bar!) are all part of the packages when you book a trip to the ranch. With employees that have been there since the opening 20 years ago, it’s a place that you’ll feel welcome coming back to again and again.

The She Hunts Skills Camp

The Record Buck Ranch is the perfect place for the She Hunts Skills Camp to happen. They have weekends available in March, April, May, and October. The classes revolve around rifle, shotgun, and bow hunting with hands-on training. Safety is a top-priority as well as teaching everyone how to field dress and butcher the game. It’s truly a comprehensive course that will teach the participants everything they need to know about hunting from start to finish.

The instructors are some of the best shooters in the world. One of their recent guest instructors was US Olympic athlete Kayle Browning. Her event coming up in the next Olympics will be trap shooting, but she’s also been a medalist at the ISSF Shooting World Championships in 2018.

Plus, there is entertainment and fun in the evenings, swag bags, and sunset game drives. This would be a great camp for women and their friends or family who want a real learning experience of the practical skills needed to become a confident hunter.

Founded by a Well-Known Name in the Industry

The camp was founded by Brittany Boddington in 2016. She had the dream of being able to convey her love of hunting and shooting sports to other women. Her love of the game comes from birth basically since her dad, Craig Boddington, is an author, television host, and shooting sports expert. When she graduated from high school in 2003, her dad surprised her with a safari hunting trip. That only made her love of bagging big game grow and let her become the skilled hunter she is in her own right today. She was the first female to appear on the cover of Petersen’s Hunting Magazine, and her appearances on outdoor television shows has made her a bit of a celebrity, at least in the shooting sports world.
