The Colt Python Revolver Gets an Update for 2020

Colt has been around since 1836, when Samuel Colt created his first gun and decided to build an empire officially in 1855. The company’s long history with the US military is also something to be admired. Based out of Hartford, Connecticut Colt is one of the few that sets industry standards that everyone copies.

Now, one of Colt’s classic designs is getting a reboot. The model is the Colt Python Revolver, and it’s getting a serious update for 2020.

The Colt Python is back in full production from the esteemed brand. The release is this month, January 2020, and already there is a wait list in many places to purchase this historical piece of weaponry.

There are some upgrades to the new models. For one thing, it has a more solid stainless steel body. The barrels are almost the same at 6 inches and 4.25 inches with a wooden grip, just like the old models. In case you were wondering what kind of wood? It’s walnut. The iconic Colt Medallion is also imprinted on the handle.

The original Colt Python is a .357 Magnum revolver that was available in 6 and 4 inch barrels with a finish made of nickel. It’s unique looking with its first introduction back in 1955. Some of the benefits of this model revolver are a very accurate shot, a silky smooth trigger pull, and adjustable sights. As a solid weapon, the Colt Python is a classic that many people love to own.

Unfortunately, the Python was discontinued from production in 1999, but Colt continued to make some models of the gun in the custom factory until 2005. Then, they stopped making them completely. The Colt Python was still a hot collectors’ item over the years in used models, until the good news that came out recently for the New Year.

It seems the company wanted to keep the feel of the old revolver, but with some other variations too. The rear sight is completely redesigned to provide a more accurate and stronger shooting experience.

Colt’s team of highly trained engineers and gunsmiths spent many years going over the specs of this firearm and redesigning it before making the new version available to the public. The price of the gun retails for around $1,500, but it’s well worth it if this is a gun you’ve always seen and admired for decades.

Right now on the website, it says both models are out of stock. But, more than likely due to the high demand, the company will be amping up production of the Colt Python very soon. It might pay to call around to your local gun shops to see if any of them have it in stock.

Taking this gun to the range is probably going to be the first exciting thing you’ll be able to do in the New Year.
