NRA Membership Jumps Past 6 Million Mark

The National Rifle Association marked a milestone in its storied history when it revealed the lobby group now has over 6 million members.

The Second Amendment advocacy group made the announcement on Memorial Day, including its new tally in a tweet that also paid homage to America’s fallen soldiers.

“The six million members of the NRA remember all the brave men and women who died fighting for our country and gave us our freedom,” the tweet read. “We stand with the families and loved ones of these heroes today and every day. They will never be forgotten.”

According to the Daily Caller, the boost in numbers comes on the heels of the political left’s media-hyped push for stricter gun control laws following the mass shooting in Parkland, Florida. Since the tragedy, the NRA has been vilified in almost every sense of the word. In a way, the demonization appears to be a blessing in disguise as more Americans concerned about the future of their constitutional rights are joining the group that promises to fight on behalf of them.

The membership surge has been in part attributed to the group’s new leadership, led by President Oliver North. Just in April, the NRA vowed to boost its numbers by 100,000. Apparently, it has far exceeded that goal. The group previously boasted 5 million members.

North has been a fiery new face for the NRA. Since his new role was revealed, he has made continuous promises to fight back against what he calls a biased narrative co-opted by the mainstream press in America.

“They can use the media against us — they are,” he said earlier in May. “They’ve gone after our bank accounts, our finances, our donors, and obviously individual members. It’s got to stop. And that’s why the leadership invited me to become the next president of the NRA.

North’s statements directly targeted the wave of anti-gun sentiment that has become prominent since the Parkland shooting, alleging that most of what Americans hear are dishonest interpretations by a heavily biased press.

“They call them activists,” he continued. “That’s what they’re calling themselves. They’re not activists — this is civil terrorism. This is the kind of thing that’s never been seen against a civil rights organization in America. You go back to the terrible days of Jim Crow and those kinds of things — even there you didn’t have this kind of thing. We didn’t have the cyberwar kind of thing that we’ve got today.”

Considering the NRA’s incredible growth over a very short period of time, it would appear that the constant bashing of the Second Amendment by late night hosts and other broadcasters is having the precisely opposite intended effect. Apparently, if you’re a Second Amendment supporter, the best thing you could ask for was for the anti-gun left to truly reveal what their actual agenda is.
