NRA Convention 2019: The Biggest Highlights

The 148th annual NRA convention took place from April 26-28th in Indianapolis, Indiana. This is a popular convention that many people attend each year to enjoy keynote speakers, exhibits, and to purchase a litany of firearm accessories. There are more than 800 exhibits to look at with a total of around 80,000 people that attend the convention each year.

This year, there were some very exciting events that took place. Let’s look at a few key points of the convention and new products to look forward to adding to your collection.

President Donald Trump’s Speech

In a talk that was more reminiscent of a typical campaign speech, President Trump also did something rather dramatic during his keynote address. He said he wouldn’t go through with a United Nations small arms treaty, and signed a statement of intent to the Senate in front of the convention. The speech lasted about an hour in total, with other points he touched on being a national decline in violent crime, and supporting teachers being trained to carry arms in classroom situations to help decrease school shootings.

Oliver North’s Big Announcement

After only one term as the President of the NRA, Oliver North announced that he will not be coming back for a second year. The reason he stated during his speech that he would not seek reelection was that due to some financial mismanagement and in-fighting among the board, it was due to a leadership struggle namely with the Vice President of the NRA, Wayne LaPierre.

New Technology to Look For

One of the best parts of the convention was looking at the different exhibits by companies that are ahead of the game technology-wise. One of those companies is XS Sights, which makes sights that are composed of a radioactive material called “tritium.” They are able to replace most regular factory sights for around $150. They are truly the brightest sights you can buy for night vision on the market today and come in two different colors.

Bullet-Proof Handbags and Backpacks

These armor plated bags were very popular at the convention this year for a stylish way to conceal carry your firearm. They have quick access pockets and concealed holsters that make it easier to access your firearm if you need it. One of the companies featured there was ASFALEIA Designs. With different choices in handbags, messenger bags, and backpacks, the function of these is what sets the apart from a regular bag. They even offer bags with an option of an added Level IIIA ballistic armor panel, which can even be used as an offensive shield in an active shooter setting.

If you are already making your plans to attend the 2020 convention, the location has already been announced. Next year the convention will take place in Nashville, TN on April 17th through the 19th at the Nashville Music City Center.
