To say Chris Cheng is a talented shooter is a bit of an understatement for this “Top Shot” champion. Now, he has some extra notoriety for appearing on the extreme talent show on TBS hosted by Snoop Dogg and Rosario Dawson. But we know him as the guy who can play music with his gun.
Chris didn’t set out to become a top marksman. He actually majored in political science and then got his masters in international policy, along with an advanced project management certification from Stanford University.
Working for Google as part of their technical support led him to decide on a big career change. He wanted to pursue his dream of being a marksman which is exactly what he did. With absolutely zero formal training, he auditioned for the History Channel’s “Top Shot” season 4 and made it onto the show. He beat out 17 other very highly trained shooters to take home the top prize — which was basically unheard of in the industry. He took his $100,000 prize to become an inspiration in the outdoor sports industry.
So how in the world did Chris learn to shoot so well? His dad only took him shooting a few times as a kid, but mainly he learned from videos and blogs. Some people just naturally pick up complicated tasks on their own it seems.
Now Chris is a spokesperson for Bass Pro Shop and routinely speaks out on Second Amendment and civil rights issues around the county. He works closely with the NRA with plans to possibly run for public office in the future.
But for now Chris is showcasing one of his special skills on the “Go Big Show.” He’s able to play songs by shooting at musical targets. He performs all kinds of songs including, “Jingle Bells,” “Mary Had a Little Lamb,” and “Ode to Joy.” Those are all classic and traditional songs, but if you want to hear something that will blow your mind, check out “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” by Beyonce. So cool!
