Vegas SHOT Show Ramps Up New Firearms

The recent SHOT Show held in Las Vegas rolled out some of the firearm industry’s finest new and updated weapons.

From distressed metal handguns to the best new tactical rifles, the 2018 Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show turned heads. These are some of highlight firearms that gun enthusiasts my want to keep an eye out for this year.

“We The People” Desert Eagle

This ruggedly styled, two-toned and inscribed Desert Eagle 1911 CSS enjoys a stainless frame. On top of chambering a powerful .45 ACP, it’s a remarkable show piece that features 40 U.S. Constitution signatures that have been laser engraved. It’s a real looker.

Ride the 224 Valkyrie Rounds

If you remember the big beach attack and surf scene in “Apocalypse Now,” the chopper music was Wagner’s “Ride of the Valkyries.” That, and these rounds, are a tribute to the ferocious female Teutonic warriors. This 224 Valkyrie AR cartridge, by Federal Premium, provides an excellent hunter’s round at 600 to 1,000 yards. The low recoil ammo comes in target, varmint, small game and competition loads.

U.S. Marshal Carbine

This highly stylized rifle harkens back to the Wild, Wild West when a marshal had his wits, courage and a repeater to keep the peace. Recognized as the “Gun that Won the West,” Cimarron has given the Winchester 1873 an upgrade for 2018. The barrel has been reduced by two inches and chambers a .44 Magnum. It’s considered a tribute to today’s thin blue line.

Iconic World War II Paratrooper Weapon

Another historical weapon, this gorgeous tactical weapon sports a French walnut pistol grip and stock. It runs just over 20 inches and fires a .300BLK round through a 7.5-inch barrel. The distinctive, lightweight piece of World War II firepower was the weapon of choice for the brave soldiers who parachuted behind enemy lines. The tribute firearm is manufactured by Battle Arms Development.

M2.0 “Next Generation”

Smith & Wesson’s platform evolves again for 2018 and the M&P9 and M&P45 have threaded barrels that are ready for suppressors. They are ergonomically friendly to palm swell grips and enjoy a clean trigger pull. All told, the new models are made to enhance concentration and help hit your mark.

Hi-Point 1095TS 10mm Carbine

Building on the manufacturer’s 9mm Luger and .45 ACP market share, Hi-Point appears to be answering the call for a hard-hitting 10mm rifle. Leaning on 200-gram bullets and a 17.5-inch barrel with 1,300-feet-per-second capabilities, the 1095TS gives hunters a viable close-range rifle. However, at 32 inches and about 7 pounds, its tactical talents could make it the next home-defense darling.

Amped Up Ruger Security-9

It wouldn’t be a proper gun show if the good folks at Sturm, Ruger & Co. didn’t showcase an impressive firearm. The Security-9 is an amped up version of the LCP II .380 ACP. At 23.7 ounces and 7.25 inches long, it remains a manageable hand-cannon for conceal carry or home defense. This version provides a double-action hammer and passive trigger safety. You won’t be fumbling around under duress, it’s pull, point and shoot with the Security-9.
