The United States Army got a very special delivery from Sig Sauer last week when the branch received its Next Generation Squad Weapons (NGSW), and boy oh boy, is it a fantastic cache of firearm power.
Sig went all out for our brave soldiers this time, of course. The goal, as Sig puts it, is to “enhance mission effectiveness for our soldiers on the battlefield.”
So what exactly did the weapon maker exclusively make for our selfless servicemen and women? Let’s explore the four high performance weapons they created as part of the Next Generation Squad Weapons for the U.S. Army.
Four New Weapons
When you break down what the four new weapons are it’s basically two firearms, ammo, and a suppressor. But there’s nothing basic about any of these new items.
One of the new firearms is the Sig Sauer Lightweight Machine Gun (NGSW-AR). This bad boy is designed with “lightweight” being the keyword here. With all the equipment soldiers have to carry with them, having a machine gun that just weighs so much less than the average model is a big advancement. It’s made to be 40 percent lighter than comparable models of machine guns. Some of the other benefits are less recoil, better ergonomics, a magazine that detaches faster, and increased rail space.
The next new gun that the Army is able to get their hands on is a Sig Sauer Rifle (NGSW-R). Once again, this new gun is more lightweight than previous models. It has added firepower, a stock that folds and collapses, and controls that work for a left or right handed person.
Third, we have a brand new Sig Sauer Next Generation Suppressor which is geared towards reducing back-flow with a low flash that is easily detachable.
Finally, the new Sig Sauer 6.88mm Hybrid Ammunition is high pressure with faster velocity and deeper penetration. Its compact rounds of power are also made to be lighter in weight.
All Weapons Are American-Made
All of these weapons were manufactured at Sig Sauer’s facilities in New Hampshire and Arkansas. Everything is entirely American-made, which is one of the best parts of this new line for the military.
It seems like Sig went through great lengths to make sure that our U.S. Army has the very best of the best when it comes to their new weapons systems. The whole process took years of advanced engineering and research that the U.S. Army will be proud to use in the coming years.
