Is your favorite gun brand made in America? There is something truly red, white, and blue about supporting the Second Amendment by buying firearms made in the good ol’ USA. Of course, there are a ton of American made companies to buy guns for home defense, daily conceal carry, hunting, or shooting sports.
Here are five of the best American gun companies to look into supporting when you are in the market for your next firearm.
Springfield Armory
Springfield Armory is one of the youngest companies, founded in 1974 by Bob Reese. The company was named after the Springfield Armory in Massachusetts, where they crafted firearms during the Revolutionary War. Their current headquarters is located in Illinois. Springfield Armory mainly makes handguns that are compact and easy to wear for concealed carry, although they do have some AR-15 style rifles as well.
Mossberg
Mossberg’s company tagline is “American Built, American Strong.” You just have to love gun company that has so much pride, and rightfully so, since they have been around for a little over one hundred years. The O.F. Mossberg & Sons company was founded in 1919 by Oscar Frederick Mossberg, a native of Sweden, who immigrated to America when he was 20-years-old. A true success story with a gun company that makes a variety of pistols, rifles, and shotguns. The reason their company took off was with the creation of the “Brownie” .22 pistol right after World War I.
Colt
Samuel Colt founded the Colt Manufacturing Company in 1855. They are known for their bold revolvers, especially the Python, the Walker, and M1911 pistol. The headquarters is in Hartford, Connecticut, and they are actually split into two separate companies now. One that specializes in the civilian consumer, while the other is mainly geared towards law enforcement, security teams, and the military.
Savage Arms
Savage Arms is another historic gun manufacturer created in New York in 1894 by Arthur Savage. This guy had the best last name for a gun company ever! One of their innovative designs is the famous Savage Model 99, a hunting rifle that has been a classic for the company since their inception. Today, they are based out of Massachusetts, with some of their operations taking place out of Canada. We won’t hold that against them too much.
Rock River Arms
Since most of the gun companies on this list are some of the biggest names in the business, here’s one that is smaller and independent. The Rock River Arms company was founded in 1993 in Illinois by two brothers, where they are still headquartered today. They make a variety of long guns, pistols, and accessories. It’s estimated that their annual revenue is around $22 million.
If you’re in the market for a new firearm, next time it might be a good idea to make sure you choose an American company to support economic growth right here at home.
you forgot Ruger.
Nothing on Ruger, the greatest American gun company?
You did forget Henry. They are definitely one of the leading American gun Company!
Henry the best!
Springfield is a IMPORTER, I believe RUGER should be number 1 and maybe Henry number 2 then Mossberg these are AMERICAN owned companies
Your spot on
In all respect to American made, Ruger is probably #1 but you also left out one of the biggest in Smith & Wesson.
Ruger, Smith & Wesson, and Colt are top three. All listed are in top 10. You should have done more home work on Springfield I think most of their handguns are made in Karlovac, Croatia, at least the XD line is.
Smith & Wesson, Ruger. ( The first company you listed is much more of an importer than a manufacturer, (Never Forget))
Reads more like a paid advertisement than an unbiased list!
List short , only excuse I’d allow , some great ones Charles Daily , Wilson Combat , I think Sig has mfg. in USA ; however may still be European, Kimber . There are a few mor good inovative guns sold in USA mfg. in USA one from Pa cann’t remember name but has come in stroung .
We should always consider USA made ; however these companies should also improve their mfg. standards . We just don’t finish a job as well as prideful Euro.’s my opinion . I waited 2 yrs before i purchased a short carry Kimber Ultra .45 .. Comes with 1 clip, ok .
will not feed relaibly , particularly , but not only when arming ( put 1 in chamber) . I’ve put 2-300 rounds through cleaned had pro. cleanedn , told have to have good smith file down acceptance bridge . Infuriates me , I have to have someone X out my warrente to attempt to get my close to $1,000 .45 Auto to feed? however I’ll continue to buy USA. ( worse with Def. ammo any mfg . ; however trouble with all ammo.
What happened to Kimber line of guns ?? Pricey but almost perfect !!!
You also forgot Windham Weaponry a Maine Company owned by Maine People. They Manufacture by far the Best AR Platform Rifles in the Firearms Industry. They are 100% American Parts with a Lifetime Gurantee, Firstin the Business. True to their Moto, “The Quality goes in before the Rifle goes Out”! Colt is Foreign Owned and has gone through Bankrupcy several times (Poor Management) ! Your List does appear to be one of Paid Advertisement to say the least!
We are the same people who took “Bushmaster” out of Bankrupcy and built it into a successful Gun Company which was sold to Cerberus Capital Management who created Freedom Group with the addition of Remington, Mossberg, DPMS. as well as others, subsequently destroying all of them!
Your SHORT LIST is your Opinion, But you surely missed the “Bullseye”by Failing to expand the List and Include the Other GREAT AMERICAN FIREARMS COMPANIES!
You missed Bond. I recently wanted to buy a derringer and the waiting list was thousands.
Maybe some of you can make a top ten list.
RUGER, S&W (Springfield ?}
