Smith & Wesson is Going to be an Independent Company Again

Smith & Wesson is set to become its own independent company again. In a rare move, the company is splitting from their parent corporation, American Outdoor Brands Inc. They are one of the biggest makers of outdoor gear, including firearms, hunting supplies, and shooting accessories. The split will be completed during the second half of 2020.

So, if Smith & Wesson is one of your favorite firearm brands, what does this mean for this important company with a long history of excellence? More of the same, hopefully, with a few key improvements to sustain this brand for years to come. They are one of the best for being a leader in the firearm’s industry.

A More Focused Vision for a Bigger Future

By splitting the two companies up, this will allow American Outdoor Brands to focus on the accessory and outdoor product category, while Smith & Wesson will be able to focus on what they do best: making guns.

Each company will be able to grow their brand with a more direct focus. You’ll probably see even more amazing firearms come out of Smith & Wesson. The firearm maker has been a part of American Outdoor Brands since 2002.

James Debney is the President and CEO of American Outdoor Brands. The company has acknowledged that stock prices have also been down, and that more restrictive gun laws in the United States have hurt both companies overall in the past few years. They are based out of Springfield, Massachusetts. Mr. Debney will continue to lead American Outdoor Brands, and a new CEO has been appointed for Smith & Wesson. Mark Smith will lead the brand because he was President of Manufacturing Services Division, and is well qualified for the position.

The History of Smith & Wesson

Two men created Smith & Wesson way back in 1852. Those two men were Daniel Baird Wesson and Horace Smith, who had the goal of creating a firearm with a fully contained cartridge. They have been an industry leader with almost 200 years of experience. Some of their most famous guns include the Volcanic Pistol created in 1854, the Model 1 Revolver in 1857, the .35 Automatic Pistol in 1935, .357 Magnum Revolver also in 1935, and one of their most recent guns, the M&P M2.0 Pistol in 2017.

The M&P M2.0 Pistol is decades of design and research to develop a pistol that is perfect for personal or sport shooting use. This is a high quality weapon with upgrades and improvements that make it modern, perfect, and a pleasure to shoot.

It will be interesting to see how Smith & Wesson adapts to being an independent company again. Hopefully, that will mean more great firearm initiatives from them in the years to come. They set a standard of excellence that many companies try to achieve with their top quality firearms.
