Of course, you know about the biggest gun rights group in America, the National Rifle Association (NRA). They are highly outspoken about the right to bear arms in our country leading back to it being outlined by the Second Amendment in our constitution. They fully throw their support behind those that stand for what they believe in, including supporting President Trump when he was running for office.
The NRA’s Membership Numbers
It’s estimated that the NRA’s membership rolls as of 2019 are around 5.5 million people that pay dues annually to the organization. They might be the most visual supportive organization of gun rights, but there are other advocacy groups out there that you should know about.
These groups all run as non-profits, and rely on outspoken members to be vital parts of their missions. It might be helpful to spread your support around to some other worthwhile groups that are doing everything they can to protect the rights of gun owners.
The Gun Owners of America
With over 2 million members, the Gun Owners of America are a robust organization that is very vocal about gun rights. They are considered a non-profit lobbying group that has been around since 1975. It was founded by former senator HL Richardson. They are also closely associated with the Gun Owners of California. Both organizations have large groups of attorneys that routinely appear in high court levels in all states around the US to preserve the right to bear arms.
The Second Amendment Foundation
This foundation was formed, according to their mission statement, to help people have a better understanding of their constitutional rights. The Second Amendment Foundation has been around since 1974 as a non-profit in the state of Washington. The group was formed by Alan Gottlieb, an author and conservative activist. He has published 19 books on the subject of gun rights. They are very proud of their public education initiatives and legal action they partake in to keep the Second Amendment strong for all citizens around the United States. It’s run by a seven member board of trustees.
The National Association for Gun Rights
Their motto is “stand up for freedom, defend the Second Amendment.” The National Associate for Gun Rights may not have been around as long as some of these other organizations, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t powerful. Created in 2000, they have been tireless in their mission to protect gun rights for all citizens in the US. Some people say they are more conservative than the NRA. Their membership numbers total around 4.5 million, which is close to the membership levels of the NRA.
