President Joe Biden gave law-abiding gun owners another reason to be worried during a town hall event last week.
The commander-in-chief largely gaffed his way through a conversation with CNN’s Don Lemon, at many times seeming uninformed and unprepared. But it was when the topic of gun violence and the Second Amendment came up when the president appeared egregiously out of touch. So, the next time you hear a Democrat voter tell you that “nobody is trying to take your guns,” all you have to do is direct them to the following statement from Joe Biden:
“The idea you need a weapon that can have the ability to fire 20, 30, 40, 50, 120 shots from that weapon — whether it’s a — whether it’s a 9-millimeter pistol or whether it’s a rifle — is ridiculous.”
President Biden indicated in no uncertain terms that one of his chief goals is to limit the types of weapons civilians can purchase.
“I’m continuing to push to eliminate the sale of those things, but I’m not likely to get that done in the near term,” Biden said. ” So here’s what I’ve done: The people who, in fact, are using those weapons are acquiring them illegally — illegally. And so what happens is, I’ve gotten ATF — Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms — I have them increase their budget and increase their capacity, along with the Justice Department, to go after the gun shops that are not abiding by the law of doing background checks.”
Biden also turned his attention to “ghost guns,” the media’s term for weapons that are built by average consumers — often in their own homes.
This isn’t exactly a new tune from Biden. The aging Democrat has been at the forefront of his party’s attempts to disarm Americans since he was a senator from Delaware. However, he is admitting that he can’t get his gun control fantasy bill now or even in the near future. Congress is bitterly divided right now, with Republicans and Democrats splitting the Senate 50-50. The president will likely wait until after the 2022 midterm elections to make his move on gun control, where he could theoretically hold a supermajority. However, midterm elections almost always cut against the party controlling the White House, which means it will be even more difficult for Biden to have any gun-related legislation passed.
In short, it’s up to the American people to meet this challenge. Democrats must not be allowed to get their supermajority. If they do, the Second Amendment will be effectively abolished.
