The Democratic Party has relentlessly attacked Second Amendment advocates and tried every trick in the book to strip law-abiding citizens of gun rights. But the anti-firearm platform has been noticeably absent from the rhetoric of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as the November election draws closer.
CNN — largely considered the leader in fake news and propaganda — added to its praise of the Biden-Harris ticket by publishing a full transcript of a recent speech. Rather than pull select words out of context to mislead everyday people as it does when President Donald Trump answers questions, the media outlet let it all ride. But what surprised many political insiders was the fact that Biden hadn’t mentioned his signature anti-gun policies once. On the campaign trail in Texas with Beto O-Rourke, the nominee for president had this to say only a month ago.
“The idea that we don’t have elimination of assault-type weapons, magazines that can hold multiple bullets in them is absolutely mindless,” Biden reportedly said. “It is no violation of the Second Amendment. It’s uh, it’s just a blow to the special interests of the gun manufacturers and the NRA. It’s got to stop.”
In a similar partisan move, NBC recently published one of Harris’ speeches in its entirety. The California Senator and vice-presidential candidate only mention guns in passing. The reference was to Biden’s 1990s failed attempt to ban home-defense firearms. Before tagging along with Biden, a man she outed as a segregationist sympathizer and bigot during the primaries, Harris declared she would sign an executive order to confiscate guns.
“I also have as part of my background and experience working on this issue, when I was attorney general (of California), and we put resources into allowing law enforcement to actually knock on the doors of people who were on two lists — a list where they had been found by a court to be a danger to themselves and others,” Harris said at the time. “We sent law enforcement out to take those guns.”
Should the pair win the election, it’s increasingly likely that Harris would end up as president due to Biden’s declining cognitive state. The liberal extremist also went on the record saying she’d strip merchants of their licenses to sell firearms.
The deafening silence on this issue these days appears to stem from two political facts. First, the violence in Democrat-run cities has prompted more than 5 million citizens to purchase guns for the first time in their lives. The number of background checks from January through July enjoyed a record-shattering pace. What is equally troubling for the Democratic ticket is that gun violence and murder rates have shot off the charts in liberal strongholds such a New York City, and Chicago, among others.
As New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio moves to defund the police, shooting incidents have surged through August to 1,013, with 1,241 wounded or dead. Under Mayor Lori Lightfoot, Chicago suffered a spike of more than 130 percent in gun violence, leaving 440 dead and 2,240 wounded. Those figures are on pace to nearly double the previous year’s shootings and homicides.
Biden and Harris don’t want to talk about guns any longer because that means discussing the lawlessness suffered in Democrat-run cities in contrast to lower crime rates and minimal shooting incidents where Republicans are elected. Guns appear to be bad policy for the Democrats this fall, unless they win in November.
