5 NON-Lethal Weapons to Consider Carrying (Along With Your Firearm)

Part of the reason to conceal carry a firearm is to be prepared for any dangerous situation that may arise. Some of those situations might not require the use of life-threatening force with your gun, but you may need something in those times to ward off an attacker. That’s where the category of non lethal weapons comes into play.

A smart person will know how to use some of these alternate methods of defense, and which type of situation might call for say, a taser, as opposed to pulling out your Ruger .327 Magnum. Let’s look into 5 non lethal weapons to consider carrying along with your firearm.

Take a Class on Non Lethal Weapons

Many firing ranges will offer different types of self-defense courses that go into how to use non lethal weapons in a variety of real-world situations. It’s best not to arm yourself with any kind of weapon that you don’t know how to use, right? Some of these weapons are trickier than you may think, especially when it comes to things like pepper spray. You don’t want to accidentally spray yourself in the process of trying to ward off an attacker.

Non lethal weapons generally are aimed towards causing a person some pain, but not mortally wounding them. They are still a very serious category of weaponry that you need to know how to use in the same way you would your firearm.

Weapon #1: Taser

This is a fine weapon of self-defense because you can be at a distance. You want to make sure the one you buy has a range of at least 15 feet. Check with local laws and ordinances to make sure you can legally carry them. This is illegal in Washington D.C., New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Hawaii.

Weapon #2: Stun Gun

The main difference between a taser and a stun gun is that with the stun gun you need to be very close to the person attacking you. The stun gun works by giving the attacker a sharp jolt of high voltage electricity to make a person’s muscles stop working. It’s shocking, effective, and won’t leave any lasting damage.

Weapon #3: Pepper Spray

A very easy method of self-defense that’s legal in all 50 states is good old fashioned pepper spray. This method works because you can spray an attacker from a safe distance. You don’t have to be right up in their face for it to be effective. When used correctly, it will definitely impair someone’s vision, and they will leave you alone.

Weapon #4: Personal Safety Button

This isn’t necessarily a non lethal weapon, per se, but it can save your life if you are in a dangerous situation where you need people to know how to find you. It’s the Invisawear Gold Chain Necklace. There is a hidden button on the back of the charm of the necklace that’s connected to an app. You press the button twice, and it instantly texts five people on your list to tell them your location by GPS. There is also the option to enable a call 9-1-1 feature that will tell a dispatcher your location to send police. For anyone who has a daughter going to college, this is a must-have gift item.

Weapon #5: Tactical Flashlight

A heavy, but small, tactical flashlight is a great weapon to use because you can surprise an attacker with the bright light — or just hitting them with it works too. It’s an easy item to carry in your purse or backpack.
